Xiaomi Mi 5C gets certified in China; rumoured to launch in February

While rumours about Xiaomi’s next flagship, the Mi 6 are rampant, there’s also the Mi 5c that has been in and out of the rumour mill for quite some time now. The device which is supposed to be an affordable version of the Mi 5 (or the Mi 5s, Mi 5S Pro) appeared in leaks last year and was recently shot down from the rumour mill as it was not going to produced. But news coming from China today proves otherwise as the smartphone seems to have made an appearance on the China Quality Certification centre (3C) hinting at a launch. In fact, there’s not one but 5 models in all that Xiaomi reportedly seems to have sent across for certification as per the publication called Anzhou. This could include the model numbers 2105212, 2016089, 2016101, MAE136 and the MBE6A5. Out of these it is the MAE136 that is said to be the Mi 5C which the website claims will be launched in February. It shows the power rating of the device using a 5V/2A power adapter and also indicates that it does not support quick charging. Coming to the leaked images, the design looks very similar to the flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 on the front, except that the device features a 2.5 glass, giving its a premium look. On the back there’s no 3D glass treatment like on the Mi 5, but a soft aluminium unibody with cutouts for the camera and antenna bands at the top and bottom ends. The device will run on MIUI 8 based on Android Marshmallow. It could also be powered by Xiaomi’s own Pinecone processor.
