Xiaomi Mi 5 now listed online, may launch on 20 February

Xiaomi’s co-founder and senior VP Liwan Jiang confirmed a February launch for the upcoming and highly anticipated Mi 5.

Soon after Xiaomi’s co-founder and senior VP Liwan Jiang confirmed a February launch for the upcoming and highly anticipated Mi 5, a new Weibo post now reveals the launch date! According to the post, the Mi 5 will be unveiled on February 20, and made available on the next day.

Jiang had earlier stated that the Mi 5 will be launched after the Chinese New Year, which begins on February 8. While he has confirmed that the new flagship will feature Snapdragon 820, a lot has been already said and written about its specs.

A report by Android Headlines reveals that images posted on the GearBest website show the Mi 5 with thin bezels. On the specs front, it gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 5.2-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution, 4GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, dual-LED flash, 8-megapixel front camera and MIUI 7 based on Android Lollipop.

A recent report also claims that there would be two variants of the Mi 5. One with a Full HD display and curved 3D-glass back, and the second with similar design but packing an all-metal contruction with a QHD (2560 x 1440 pixel) display.

There have also been leaked images in the past that show off the front and back of the smartphone. The front appears to have a 2.5 D glass while the back is similar to what we have on the Mi Note. There seem to be no capacitive touch keys at the bottom, but just a slim capsule-like, fingerprint reader that also appears to be a home button.
