Xiaomi Mi 4i receives OTA system update; claims to have fixed overheating issues

As  **anticipated** , Xiaomi has begun rolling out the OTA system update of MIUI v6.5.5.0 for Mi 4i users. This update aims to fix a crucial overheating issue which was reported by many users. Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s Vice President of International Operations took to Facebook late last night and posted that, “Today we began an over-the-air system update of MIUI v6.5.5.0 for Mi 4i users. This is our first major update for the Mi 4i since its launch last month, incorporating feedback from many early Mi 4i users with a number of bug fixes and optimizations.” Barra shared that a few Mi 4i users were experiencing unnecessary heating issues with their device while playing complex 3D gaming for extended periods of time. To fix this complication, Xiaomi has optimised its thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. The post adds that the new thermal controls will adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature. He went on to add that during the company’s internal testing and pre-OTA release in the MIUI Forum and beta testers, they observed that these changes reduced the smartphone’s overall temperature, without impacting performance. Barra points out that all Xiaomi Mi 4i users should receive the update this week and he looks forward to everyone’s feedback on the same. In addition, Barra stated that a previous OTA update v6.5.4.0 was halted a few days back as a small number of users reported a minor issue related to the power button. This issue was fixed and only then, was it resumed for everyone by Xiaomi. Those wanting to get their hands on the latest Xiaomi Mi 4i, can do so today on **Flipkart, sans any registration** . The device is powered by a 64-bit second gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. It comes with four performance cores at 1.7 GHz, and four power saving cores at 1.1 GHz. They have been designed by Qualcomm India. The device has 2GB RAM and includes 16GB on-board storage.
