Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced its foray into a new product category today at an event in New Delhi. The company announced its updated Mi Air Purifier 2 that marks its entry into the smart home appliances product segment and also launched its Mi Band 2 fitness tracker. Xiaomi’s Mi Air Purifier 2 is priced at Rs 9,999 and will be available on sale at Mi.com on 26 September at 12PM. The Mi Band 2 will be available on sale at Mi.com on 27 September at 12PM and on 30 September at 12AM on Amazon.in.
Coming to the bigger launch, the Mi Air Purifier 2 is the updated version of the Mi Air Purifier that was launch in the China markets not too long ago. It’s smaller and features a reduced capacity compared to the bigger model, but it takes up less space and runs silently.
The product puts the ‘smart’ into the air purifier by adding a Wi-Fi module along with an air quality sensor, temperature sensor and a humidity sensor. All of this allows the owner to monitor and control the Mi Air Purifier 2 via his or her smartphone from anywhere via a cellular data network. The product features a modern design and keeps things simple with just 3 LEDs to indicate the operational mode.
According to the figures claimed by the Xiaomi website, the Mi Air Purifier 2 is capable of cleaning up the air of a large living room in just 10 minutes. It packs in a large filter that includes a PET primary filter, HEPA (High-efficiency Particulate Arrestance) filter and an activated carbon adsorption filter. Mi Air Purifier 2 has an updated system of air flow compared to the previous model with a CARD performance of 330m3/h but due to size restrictions, take a hit when it comes to the capacity delivered over the previous model.
The unit measures 240 x 240 x 520 mm and weighs 4.8kgs with the filter inside. The filter for the Mi Air Purifier 2 is priced at Rs 2,499 and will be available on Mi.com.
Coming to the Mi Band 2, it is a big upgrade over the previous Mi Band models and packs in an optical heart rate sensor for getting heart rate data and more. The Band 2 also features an OLED display and comes with an IP67 rating. Apart from generating and relaying fitness data to your smartphone, the Mi Band 2 can also be used to unlock your smartphone and receive vibration alerts for calls and SMS.
