Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun says Xiaomi Mi 5 is 'worth waiting for'

During the launch of Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 and Mi Pad 2, many hoped to catch a glimpse of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5. Upon being questioned about the device, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun stated that the smartphone ‘is worth the wait’ and is ‘very, very good’. However, no time frame was provided as to when the device is expected to launch. A report by PhoneArena points out that Jun did note that Xiaomi is speeding up its development cycle, meaning that we should expect less time between the company’s product launches. Tipster Leaksfly had earlier mentioned in a Weibo post that Xiaomi will launch its Mi 5 flagship smartphone at an event on December 3. Based on previous leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will include a 5.3-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixels of resolution, and pixel density that goes up to 554ppi. The company might opt for a MediaTek Helio X20 processor. The chipset is likely to be coupled with 4GB of RAM and 16/64GB internal storage. A 3,030mAh battery is expected to power the device, slightly lower than lower than the 3,080mAh battery seen on its predecessor. On the camera front, one can expect a 16MP rear snapper and a 6MP front-facing camera for selfie lovers. The handset will run Android 5.1.1. Besides, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to come with a fingerprint scanner, named Sense ID. This sensor is said to work on ultrasound technology rather than on optical one seen in the current fingerprint sensors. GSMArena explains that the ultrasound technology is apparently more ‘resilient against dirt and water on the finger’.
