Back in August, 2K and Firaxis had unveiled a major DLC to turn-based tactical strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. The DLC, dubbed XCOM: Enemy Within is set to come out on November 15 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Bad news for console gamers, however, is that the DLC won’t be making it to the consoles through digital means. Firaxis Senior Producer told Joystiq that the DLC is simply too large to “patch in”.
“For the expansion on the PC, it was fairly straightforward,” DeAngelis told Joystiq. “But when it came to the consoles, it was too big. If we wanted to deliver the same content to the console players, we had to do it this way as a standalone expansion on a disc. We couldn’t simply just patch it in.”
Expanding!
Instead, the DLC will be hitting the consoles in the new XCOM Commander’s Edition. It will be a re-release that will include the original game, Enemy Within and the Slingshot and Elite Soldier add-ons. The retail re-release is expected to cost $40 (Rs 2,680 approx). On PC, the DLC is going to cost $30 (Rs 2,000 approx).
XCOM: Enemy Within is going to add a bunch of new features to the game, which includes new abilities for soldiers, gene mods accessible through the genetics lab, mechanised exoskeletal cybersuits, new weapons and equipment, new enemies, new strategic resource, new tactical challenges and new maps for the multiplayer mode.
