XCOM: Enemy Unknown to get more DLC next year

XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been a critical and commercial success, and according to Gameranx, parent company Take-Two has announced that the game will get downloadable content (DLC) next year.

A representative from Take-Two issued a statement: “The title is proving to be a critical and commercial success, with strong digital sales and a near 90 average review score on Metacritic. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is being supported with two downloadable add-on content packages available this year, with additional content planned for 2013.”

The two add-ons that are set for this year are the Elite Soldier Pack and the Slingshot Content Pack. The Elite Soldier Pack was a pre-order bonus, but is available for $4.99 on the PlayStation 3 and PC, and 400 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360. The Elite Soldier pack gives you more in-depth options to customise your soldiers, such as armour colour.

The second pack set for a release before the end of the year, the Slingshot Content Pack, has no release date so far, but includes three new maps that are linked to Council missions, new playable characters, and more customisation options for your soldiers.

While gamers in the US had been enjoying the game for three whole days before the release, the game got released for the rest of the world on October 26. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a successor to the old XCOM games from the 90s, where you had to defend the earth against alien invasions.

The game is said to be extremely difficult, in the vein of previous games in the series, which have been widely celebrated by old school gamers everywhere as some of the best strategy games ever created. Those who had pre-ordered XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Steam had received a free copy of Civilization V – a game from the same developers, Firaxis.

The main bonuses from pre-ordering the game off Steam were that those who pre-ordered got bonus cosmetic items to use in Team Fortress 2. These include a hairstyle from the old XCOM games, a new helmet for the Pyro and an insignia that you can proudly wear to show off that you pre-ordered XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Here is a description of the game according to the website for the game: “Threatened by an unknown enemy, the Earth’s governments unite to form an elite paramilitary organization, known as XCOM, to combat this extraterrestrial attack. As the commander of XCOM, you control the global defense team in a battle against a terrifying alien invasion by creating a fully operational base, researching alien technologies, planning combat missions, and controlling soldier movement in battle.”

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
