XCOM: Enemy Unknown announced

Game Informer’s latest cover has blown the doors open to a brand new X-COM game from developer Firaxis best known for their Civilization games. Unlike the X-COM first person shooter being developed by 2K Marin, this one will be an out and out Real Time Strategy (RTS) game, something that should get unanimous approval from fans of the franchise.

Firaxis are obviously huge fans and their love for the franchise has been reflected in what Steve Martin, president of the studio had to say, “It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM. We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise.”

I personally haven’t played any X-COM game but if you wish to check them out, now would be the perfect time to do so as Steam is offering the entire catalogue for just $5 as part of today’s deal.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now.
