World of Modcraft - Raid Essentials

In our last guide we introduced you to some basic mods that can get you started in World of Warcraft. After you hit the level cap you’re bound to either start PvPing (player versus player) or raiding like hell, or both. Since I’m not too much into PvP (I really suck at it) I’ve listed a few mods to help you out in raids. So if you plan on raiding, these mods are complete must-haves…

Omen Threat Meter

Omen Threat Meter is one of the most useful tools if you’re a Warlock, Rogue, Mage – basically any DPS (damage per second) class. While raiding, it’s of utmost importance to ensure that whatever you’re killing stays aggroed by the Tank or Offtank only. If you build up more ‘threat’ than they do, by causing large amounts of damage in a short span of time, whatever your killing will attack you instead of them and pound you into the ground in no time.

Omen helps you track how much threat you’ve generated so that you can either use a threat reducing ability (eg. Feint) or reduce your damage output to ensure that you don’t get yourself and your party killed. So if you’re a DPS class and you don’t have this mod, you’re a threat to your entire raid.

Deadly Boss Mods

Deadly Boss Mods is a compilation of individual boss mods for each and every Raid boss out there. Every raid boss has its own set of abilities and phases that trigger at particular points in a fight. During each of these phases the raid needs to change its tactics in order to successfully kill the boss. If even a single person messes up, chances are that a chunk of the raid can end up dead, which will really hurt the raid’s chances to succeed.

To deal with this, Deadly Boss mod helps you track these abilities and warns you when the boss is about to change phase or trigger an ability, making it an invaluable addition to a raider’s arsenal.

Recount Damage Meter

In our last article we recommended ‘DamageMeters’ as a good DPS counter. Recount provides the same functionality as DamageMeters, and does whatever DamageMeters does, only better. Plus, it has a really nice Pie Diagram to show you what ability caused what percentage of your damage. This helps you decide how to change your Talent specification or gear to improve your raid damage output and max it out.

Be warned though, Recount’s auto-sync ability can completely suck up your bandwidth if you have a weak connection, since it sends a ton of data to and fro. Other than that little flaw, Recount is a must have for any raider.

oRA2

Back in the day, CT Raid mod was the greatest mod compilation out there for raiders. The main problem most people had was that it was really resource hungry and terribly cumbersome to configure. oRA2 is a lightweight replacement for that relic, and manages to do most of what the CT raid mod did, only better and without hogging too much by way of system resources.

This mod pack includes its own resurrection monitor, a ready check (not like you need an external one though), a voting system, item check, main tank frames (to help you heal/assist the main/off tank), and a really nifty durability check to help you decide when its time to throw down that repair bot.
