World Cup 2015: BCCI and Twitter team up to offer missed call cricket updates to fans

After teaming up for Team India’s home series against Sri Lanka in November 2014, BCCI and Twitter have yet again announced to partners for the World Cup 2015 to launch missed call updates for fans. This means, fans can now follow Team India and Indian cricket on Twitter with timely tweets from BCCI by just giving a missed call on 011 30081008 from a mobile phone. On dialling the number, users will start to follow the @BCCI account on Twitter and receive up to three tweets a day as SMS messages. Apart from match updates, the tweets will also include links to photos, Vines and videos. Sanjay Patel, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, said, “The BCCI has many firsts to its credit, in terms of making it easier for fans to connect to cricket on mobile. We are pleased to be the first sports federation globally to launch the SMS Fast Follow feature on Twitter and ensure that cricket-lovers are now just a missed call away from getting inside information on their favourite sport.” Added Rishi Jaitly, India and South East Asia Market Director, Twitter; “In India, Twitter is focused on reaching every person with a mobile phone and this product is in service of that goal. We applaud the BCCI for taking the initiative to make it even more accessible for fans to stay in touch with the latest on Indian cricket.” This partnership builds on Twitter’s latest Indian acquisition, Bangalore-based ZipDial, a ‘missed call’ mobile marketing firm to bolster its reach in emerging markets such as India. It also makes BCCI the first sports federation to conect its fans to Twitter via missed calls.
