Microsoft has now put up a fixed version of Windows RT 8.1 to the Windows Store for download, according to a new statement released to ZDNet . The company was last seen removing the operating system from the Store following a number of complaints from users who were facing problems with their installation.
The company, at the time, had said that the issue was limited only to Surface RT customers and released a Surface RT recovery image to address some of the update issues. At the time, the company had said that it had made recovery media available for download along with actionable guidance for affected customers.
Now, a spokeperson, while talking about this, has said that, “This was due to a rare situation where firmware updates had not completed at the time of the update to RT 8.1. In most cases, if a customer encountered this issue the result was simply an extra reboot. However, for a very small percentage, the boot configuration data was affected which prevented a successful boot. We worked to quickly resolve the issue and now encourage customers to update their Surface RT devices. Surface Pro and 8.1 customers were not impacted by this issue.”
Microsoft has now put up a fixed version of the Windows RT 8.1 update
The company, while addressing the user complaints that had cropped up, said, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If an issue occurs with our software or devices, we take immediate steps to ensure a quality experience for every single customer—that’s been our driving priority in this case, despite the very limited number of customers impacted. We are grateful to the customers who shared their Surface RT devices, assisting our efforts to determine the root cause quickly.”
The fixed update is definitely going to be a welcome one to users. Multiple reports have shown that the company has been struggling to push up the sales figures of its Surface tablets , and the issues faced with the update could affect the same further. When the issue was first reported, the company had stated that one out of every 1,000 Surface RT devices were being affected, but could the exact problem could not be figured out at the time.
