The Android and iOS users among you must be scratching your heads at the title. “Why wouldn’t you have a camera button on the lockscreen?”, you might ask. The answer is quite simple actually. Windows 10 Mobile and Windows Phone devices are only manufactured by Microsoft (Lumia) today and every Lumia device comes with a dedicated camera button (with some exceptions, such as the Lumia 650 ). The camera button was first spotted by WinBeta on a Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build. Redstone builds are Insider Previews that are released to a beta test group. As of now, the dedicated camera button is only visible if you’re using on-screen buttons, reports WinBeta, and there isn’t an option to customise it’s placement. One has to wonder why this “feature” isn’t standard on all Windows devices, but we suppose that some progress is better than no progress. Devices like the Lumia 650 could definitely do with an on-screen camera button and if other manufacturers eventually chip in, they might also appreciate the feature. WinBeta also reports that the Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build had earlier been pulled due to a bug in the update that killed cellular connections.
An update to Windows 10 Mobile’s Redstone build indicates that a camera button might be coming to the lock-screen soon.
