It looks like Microsoft is putting most of its focus on bringing in more artificial intelligence (AI) technology to its Windows platform after the company announced that it is set to introduce a new AI platform called as Windows ML. Expected to be launched this spring, Windows ML should be useful for developers to create more optimised apps for people running Windows 10.
“AI acceleration on Window 10 PCs is the latest evidence of how artificial intelligence is becoming ubiquitous in our everyday lives,” said Ian Buck, vice president and general manager, Accelerated Computing, at Nvidia.
Microsoft has already been using AI across its apps such as Office 365, Windows Hello Facial recognition, Windows 10 Photos and more. As per Microsoft's official blog, Windows ML will allow developers to import several of the existing AI models and allow them to run locally on the PC. This will speed up the process of analysing data such as images and videos in real-time, build affordable, end-to-end AI solutions and improve background tasks.
Windows ML will run across all platforms such as laptops, PCs, HoloLens, 2-in-1s, servers, data centres and IoT devices.
The AI platform can be previewed earlier on Windows with Visual Studio Preview 15.7 for the developers. Windows ML API can be used on standard desktop apps and Universal Windows Apps across all editions of Windows 10 later this year.
