Tablets are getting ever-so-popular for gaming these days, so companies have been looking to capitalise on it. Latest in the line of so-called “gaming tablets” is the Wikipad. Originally, the 7-inch Wikipad tablet has seen numerous delays. The company however has finally given a concrete release date. The tablet will be hitting store shelves on June 11 and will cost $249, which roughly translates to Rs 14,065. This is the US launch date, and the company plans to announce the international launch dates at the upcoming E3.

The tablet has been classified as a gaming tablet thanks to the detachable gamepad controls that it comes bundled with. Other than this, the hardware is also beefy enough to handle most, if not all, Android games. The Wikipad has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800, giving it a pixel density of 215 ppi. Powering it is Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chipset. It has 16GB of internal memory which in turn is expandable through a microSD card slot. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and has PlayStation Mobile certification, which lets it run PS-certified games. Thanks to the Tegra chip, the tablet can also access the TegraZone.

The Wikipad is no doubt in response to shoddy controls in some tablet games, especially those that have been ported from other platforms. When games like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Anniversary Edition are ported to touchscreen devices, the problem lies in the fact that they use on-screen controls that are inefficient and never as responsive as actual buttons. The gamepad bundled with the Wikipad aims to combat this problem.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns.
