Many are wondering why Samsung built two variants, wouldn’t the refreshing S6 Edge design suffice the need, especially considering that design has been its major bone of contention.

Why Samsung decided to launch two Galaxy S6 phones? Move betrays company's lack of confidence

We’ve seen Apple release two variants of its iPhone 6, and now Samsung follows suit with the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. While Apple had to up its ante and give into user feedback by churning out a larger display model to cater to a specific demand from fans, Samsung does not seem to have any particular reason for why it opted for two models. Wouldn’t the innovative and unique S6 Edge design been more than enough for a Samsung flagship? The device has already addressed the major criticism against Samsung, which is its design. The Galaxy S6 Edge has a great design, which is bot refreshing and different. The other Galaxy S6 variant seems just futile, especially considering that there isn’t much difference in the specs except the Edge has a slightly larger battery. Both Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge sport a similar display size, camera and most other features are also exactly the same. With the design change being the only prime difference between the two models, Samsung has made it difficult for users to get their hands on the better variant by pricing it about Rs 10,000 higher than the Galaxy S6. The move speaks of an utter lack of confidence on the part of Samsung. It says Samsung wasn’t confident enough to launch the Galaxy S6 Edge as its solo flagship model and was therefore hedging its bets. Lately, Samsung has started losing its grip over the markets that it once dominated. From falling shares to a decline in sales and a bunch of dud flagships, the future of the company doesn’t look bright, and may well be on the same path of ruin as Nokia. [caption id=“attachment_256932” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![01_GALAXY-S6-Edge](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/01_GALAXY-S6-Edge.jpg) Galaxy S6 Edge[/caption] The company has been receiving a lot of flak for the materials it uses to build its flagship devices and its inability to dish out something new, vis-a-vis situation faced by Apple just before the iPhone 6 launch. Unlike Apple, which had only been laughing smaller screen phones, Samsung on the other hand has a vast profile and what people wanted was something new and refreshing. This is what Samsung has tried to achieve with its Project Zero, especially the S6 Edge. The device has everything that could make it a Samsung flagship. Maybe, Samsung still isn’t sure what could probably resurrect its position in the market. In terms of design, it had recently launched the **Note Edge** , and so implementing a similar design wouldn’t be a difficult task. Unlike the Note Edge that features a curved display on the right side, the S6 Edge comes with a dual edge,  in order to ensure that it didn’t look repetitive. Unlike the Note Edge’s 5.6-inches display, the Galaxy S6 Edge comes with a smaller 5.1-inch display. It has also put the edges to good use with features like the edge lights up each time someone calls, allowing you to assign specific colour for various callers. The notifications and other shortcuts have been accommodated on the sides. The UI is more customized and it also get a bigger battery, obviously you will also be paying slighter higher. **Click here for key specs** of the Galaxy S and Galaxy S6 Edge. However, the Note Edge wasn’t an instant hit or brought great numbers for Samsung. This could be the reason why Samsung may have decided to accompany it with the Galaxy S6, sans the curved display. After all, the Galaxy S6 is considered to be its make or break device for the premium market.
