White Knight Chronicles II and Origins Announced

The European Sony PlayStation Blog announced yesterday that both a sequel and a prequel for Level 5’s JRPG that came out here last year, White Knight Chronicles, are in the works. White Knight Chronicles II will land on the PlayStation 3 and White Knight Chronicles: Origins will mark the debut of the series on the PlayStation Portable.

White Knight Chronicles II brings to the table a host of improvements over its predecessor, such as improved battle mechanics and online play for up to 6 people. It will continue following the story of Leonard, White Knight Chronicle’s protagonist. The Japanese game shipped with a version of the first game that included all the improvements made for the sequel. Sony remain tight-lipped on whether the updated first game will make it to Europe too, though.

White Knight Chronicles: Origins is set around 10,000 years before the story of White Knight Chronicles, and will be the first entry of the series on the PSP. It will feature a 30-odd hour single player campaign, as well as the ability to team up with 3 other players for 4-player co-op action.

Both games are set to come out in May this year, and I hope they make it to India too. While the first game didn’t do too well here, these two games could turn the series’ fortunes around.
