WhatsApp's new Android beta version reveals a redesigned settings menu: Report

Aren’t you always looking forward to what’s going to be the next change on WhatsApp? We know, we are! And fortunately, keeping this week exciting is some reported redesign coming to WhatsApp for Android users. According to WABetaInfo, which is a popular beta tester for the messenger, WhatsApp’s latest beta version for Android, which is v2.19.4, shows a redesigned Settings menu for the app. As per the report, this new layout will be part of the next Google Play Stable release for the app. It’s been a while that we saw any change to the WhatsApp UI per se. This purported redesign comes with changes to all the sections in the Settings app, apparently adding new icons for all the options. When this goes live, many of us may not even notice this change, but you never know if this small redesign is a stepping stone to something bigger. Looking at the screenshots shared by the beta testers, under the Account Settings, all options like the Privacy, Security, Two-step verification, etc., now have a dedicated icon next to them. [caption id=“attachment_5540381” align=“alignnone” width=“1024”] ![WhatsApp says it amy cease to exist in India if new regulations kicks in. Image: Reuters[/caption] Under Chat settings, instead of tick boxes, the options now have sliding toggles in front of them, and other options like Wallpaper, Chat backup and Chat history now have dedicated icons too. Similar icons have been added under the Help section as well. Image: WABetaInfo[/caption] What’s also interesting about the redesign is the Network usage app, which in the screenshots looks more comprehensible. This will soon break down your usage into the total data used, how much data was sent and how much was received by the app. Further, the section will be divided into categories like Calls, Media, Google Drive, Messages and Status, each of which will show a break down of how much data each section is consuming. Finally, the redesigned UI will also allow you to see the total messages exchanged, the number of photos, videos and GIFs exchanged, the number of times you shared locations among the members in a group. There will be a similar option for individual chats as well.
