WhatsApp will now integrate 'Call via Skype' feature: Report

Users are still waiting on  WhatsApp's voice calling feature  which has been in the news for the longest time. Though there have been **leaked screenshots**  explaining the feature, recent reports have suggested that WhatsApp will in fact, integrate ‘Call via Skype’ feature to its app. [caption id=“attachment_248723” align=“aligncenter” width=“640”] ![Whatsapp-Skype](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Whatsapp-Skype.png) The screenshot of the log seen above shows calling features such as Call Mute, Call on Hold, Call via Skype and so on[/caption] Maktechblog reported, that while digging into the WhatsApp for iPhone app, which was updated in November, they found several references that indicating that WhatsApp would add ‘Call via Skype’ feature. As you can see in the image above, one of the translation string is of “Call Via Skype”. According to this report, WhatsApp will integrate ‘Call via Skype’ feature very soon. Other features will also include ‘Call Hold, ‘Call Mute’, ‘Call Back’, ‘Call Back Message’, ‘Call Me in X minutes’, ‘Call Notifications’, and a separate screen for call logs. WhatsApp, which has now been **acquired by Facebook** might also include a Driving Mode feature which could read out messages and calls while the user is driving or is on the ‘Do not Disturb’ mode. WhatsApp seems to be following the same lines as Facebook which has also partnered with Skype to launch it’s video service. It has been reported earlier that,  **WhatsApp will not get voice-calling feature** till early 2015, we hope to get a concrete time-frame, as to when these new features will be added. The instant messaging app has revealed that it is being used by 700 million people every month, up from 600 million in August 2014. CNET reported that, the company’s CEO Jan Koum wrote in a Facebook post that users are sending 30 billion messages per day. Earlier **reports** suggest that WhatsApp may soon run on desktops as well. In an interview with TechCrunch, co-founder of rival messaging app **Telegram** , Pavel Durov said that he thinks that WhatsApp is working on a web version similar to  web.telegram.org, since they tried to hire Telegram’s web developer. If WhatsApp does launch a desktop version, it will make competition tougher for the other apps in the market, although it will be a late entrant in the field.
