WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum said that the messaging app has more users than Twitter and has more messages being exchanged than Facebook. Koum made the remarks at AllThingsD’s Dive Into Mobile conference.
Effectively according to Koum, WhatsApp has more than 200 million active monthly users. Twitter has officially stated that it has 200 million monthly active users.
As far as messages go, WhatsApp stated that it is processing eight billion inbound messages and 12 billion outbound ones everyday. Again the numbers are higher than Facebook’s 10 billion messages per day, reports the Verge.

And when it comes to advertising on WhatsApp, Koum said that they are proud of their anti-advertising manifesto.
“We’re so bombarded with ads so much in our daily lives and we felt that smartphones aren’t the place for that. Our phones are so intimately connected to us, to our lives. Putting advertising on a device like that is a bad idea. You don’t want to be interrupted by ads when you’re chatting with your loved ones.” , he said.
WhatsApp is certainly one of the most popular messaging apps despite all the tough competition it faces from rivals like Facebook Messenger, KakaoTalk, Line, Nimbuzz and others. Recently it was rumoured that both Google and Facebook , were in talks to acquire the app. However, WhatsApp denied both rumours.
