After WhatsApp pushed out an update revealing a video calling option , there is now another update rolling out that removes that option altogether.

Just a few days ago a number of users who are a part of WhatsApp’s Android beta program noticed a video calling option when tapping to place a regular VoIP call using a data network. The update tagged as v2.16.80 introduced a new feature and was even officially documented in the changelog. The changelog also mentioned that while the option was available, the service was not activated and that it was just placed there for testing purposes.

Today in a similar manner another update has been rolled out that removes the same video calling option. While there is no clear cut explanation for the same, it would be safe to assume that the feature was not ready even for beta use indicating that it may take some time till it rolls out to the public.

WhatsApp recently  introduced a desktop app that was made available for both Windows and Mac platforms. The WhatsApp desktop client offers all the same features and shortcuts, that users have already seen on the WhatsApp for Web app. However, the difference is the fact that the new app does not depend on the mobile version of the communication platform.

WhatsApp stated in a blogpost , “Today we’re introducing a desktop app so you have a new way to stay in touch anytime and anywhere – whether on your phone or computer at home or work. Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device.”
