Websites have multiplied from less than 20,000 hosts since 1995, to over 100 million sites online now. According to Britain-based Internet monitoring firm, Netcraft, the Internet has doubled in size since May 2004, when the survey hit 50 million. This year, around 27.4 million websites have been added on the web as compared to 17 million sites added last year.
Netcraft says the rapid growth of the Internet is due to free blogging services at Google and Microsoft, as well as to strong demand for low-priced domain names. Moreover, the study states that Germany, China, South Korea and Japan showed the greatest Web site growing spurts.
