WD has now announced the expansion of its Red line of SATA hard drives designed for home and small office network attached storage (NAS) systems. The company, up until now, only offered its Red line drives in 3.5-inch form factors. Now, customers can pick up the 1TB and 750GB Red line drives variants in the sleeker and much more compact 2.5-inch form factor.
The company has said that its WD Red drives are specifically tested for compatibility in NAS environments. The USP of the hard drives is the fact they offer lower noise and vibration when compared to regular hard drives, which is important keeping in mind their always-on nature. The new Red drives also come with built-in NASware 2.0 technology as well as recovery controls to combat any issue that may rise up.
The company is also catering to customers who want more capacity with a new 4TB Red drive which has been launched along with the 2.5-inch variants. The company has said that it realised the need for additional capacity in the 3.5-inch variant while talking to its NAS partners.
