The troubled production of Blizzard's upcoming Warcraft movie seems to have hit another speed bump. Film studios Universal and Legendary have announced that the Warcraft movie's release date has been pushed back from 2015 to March 11, 2016, according to Variety. The theory is that the studio doesn't want to compete with JJ Abram's upcoming Star Wars movie, which will be released in late 2015.
The movie was on hiatus for a long time before Blizzard announced during this year’s Blizzcon that it is being headed by Duncan Jones. The movie will apparently concentrate on the conflict between the orcs and humans, telling the origin stories for classic Warcraft characters, like Lothar for the humans and Durotan for the orcs.
Orcs were definitely evil in Warcraft 2
"One of the real difficult decisions we had was what part of the lore to focus on," Jones said at Blizzcon. This is because the Warcraft universe has "such a huge, vast timeline," that the goal was to get "to the root of what Warcraft is and where it came from."
The Warcraft series, traditionally a series of strategy games, has always been about the conflicts between orcs and humans. While the first two games painted the orcs as clearly being the bad guys, Warcraft 3 came along to flesh out the race quite a bit and showed that they were simply being manipulated. In the current Warcraft storyline in World of Warcraft, the Human vs Orcs conflict has been a cold war of sorts, with many minor skirmishes popping up but no all-out war effort.
