Volition not worried about Grand Theft Auto V releasing soon after Saints Row IV

An interesting feud might be about to start in the August to September period between Volition’s Saints Row IV and Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar had earlier announced that GTAV will be coming out in September, whereas Volition recently announced the release date of Saints Row IV to be in August.

According to Eurogamer though, Volition doesn’t seem to be worried. Volition Producer Jim Boone told Eurogamer that he believes the genre to be big enough to support more than one game.

“Yeah, it’s a big one, and we talk about it a lot,” said Boone. “Obviously when they announced their date and it was so close to us - that was an interesting phenomenon. But honestly, the way that we tend to look at it is that here’s this huge game that’s coming out at the same time and it’s going to sell a tonne. We know that, and it’s unfortunate from that standpoint.”

Out on August 23 for us

Craziness defined

“But the thing we feel good about in general is that we’re such a different game to what they are. If we were stylistically similar to the first Saints Row, I’d be horrified right now. Saints Row the Third came out the same time as Assassin’s Creed, but the games are so different in terms of what they do. The genre’s matured enough where you can have all these different styles and still be an open world game and be different. So I look at GTA 5 and think there’s this massive game coming out, but I don’t think with our superpowers and alien invasions that no-one will be comparing us to them.”

Saints Row 4 was originally going to be a DLC for Saints Row: The Third—titled Rise of the Dominatrix—but Volition later announced that the DLC will instead be a part of Saints Row 4.

“When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise,” said Jason Rubin, THQ’s President. “I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why  Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.”

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

“We believe the potential for this sequel is far greater as a full-priced, full-length, high quality, connected experience,” he added.

As of yet, it is unknown whether Saints Row 4 will continue the story of the series. The events of Saints Row: The Third take place shortly after the end of Saints Row 2, where the Third Street Saints have taken over the city and have become cultural icons all over the world. Saints Row: The Third chronicles the Boss taking over the new city of Steelport and getting revenge on the other gangs for killing Johnny Gat.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
