Global mobile service provider, Vodafone, will now enable UK customers to access and view Google-owned video sharing website, YouTube, on mobile phones. The service, to be available via Vodafone Live! will initially be rolled out in UK, but is expected to be offered in various European markets soon.
Video sharing site, YouTube, will provide a daily selection of new videos offering Vodafone customers videos across various categories, on the mobile platform. Users can forward links for their favorite videos to their friends, upload their own content from their mobile phones and search across multiple categories, on Vodafone Live!
Frank H. Rovekamp, Global Chief Marketing Officer, Vodafone said, “Today’s announcement with YouTube further expands the range of Internet services we’re bringing to the mobile, introducing a seamless experience that allows customers to engage with user generated content on the move. Through attracting the most popular internet brands onto Vodafone mobile devices we will continue to ensure our customers can access and share the best entertainment anytime and anywhere.”
Representatives also said Vodafone and YouTube will continue to explore ways to enhance this offering and will cooperate closely in the coming months.
The YouTube deal is the third consecutive tie-up for Vodafone, following those with popular social networking site, MySpace, and eBay Inc. Also, YouTube, has similar offerings in the U.S. where customers of Cingular Wireless LLC, Sprint Nextel Corp., T-Mobile USA Inc. and Verizon Wireless Inc. can upload videos from their phones.
