Videocon to stall services in most circles

Fairly popular mobile service provider operating in the country, Videocon Mobile Services have in a startling move decided to stall their operations across most of their existing telecom circles, and instead service only those circles where their subscriber population is exceeding 5 lakhs, reports Telecom Talk. If this report’s anything to go by, then this move by Videocon, follows the revocation of the company’s 21 2G licenses, in a recent, high-profile ruling delivered by the Supreme Court, which the licenses of several other telcos getting revoked, too. Reportedly, it was 2008, when Videocon earned their license and 2G GSM spectrum for a total of 21 circles. Videocon, reportedly is not the first mobile operator who have made a decision as such to halt services. Shutting down services?

Videocon Mobiles, reportedly will now function in Tamil Nadu including, Chennai, Punjab and Haryana and Maharastra and Mumbai. Presently, Haryana offers the largest subscriber base for Videocon. One of Telecom Talk’s readers (a Videocon subscriber) from Kerala pointed out in the report that recharge has been disabled in Kerala, since 3 days and most of the FRC (First Recharge Coupon) have been withdrawn, too, clearly indicating the company’s plans for future in the southern state. Also now that Videocon will be withdrawing its services from most of its circles, the FRC, too will be available selectively only in those circles where Videocon’s services will still be active.
