Videocon to launch 4G services in six circles by year-end

Videocon Telecommunication is all set to launch its 4G services in six circles - Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, UP-East, UP-West and Bihar – by the end of this year, Videocon Technologies Director & CEO Arvind Bali told reporters. “The technology offering high-speed data services has the potential to overcome the handicaps posed by the 3G services. LTE can offer 20-50 times higher speed over 3G to consumers,” he said.

At the time, Bali said, “We intend to engage Nokia Siemens Networks as our Technology partner for our 4G Network Rollout in the country. The partnership will be a revolutionary step in bringing next generation of efficient mobile broadband services. 4G Network is capable of providing comprehensive IP based telecom solutions that allows voice, data and streamed multimedia services in a seamless manner at much higher data speed than the existing generation network including 2G and 3G. This, going forward shall address consumer requirement of enhanced data service experience including Video Chat, Mobile TV, HD TV content, digital video broadcasting etc and overhaul the existing mobile data communication in the country Nokia Siemens Network is our technology partner for 2G Network, and we are very happy with the services offered. We look forward to having a long term partnership with Nokia Siemens Network, the world leader in LTE innovation, to bring about a way forward for the next data communication revolution to the engaged consumers of the country.”

In January this year, it was reported that Videocon Mobile Services will launch 4G services in July 2013 in the 1800 MHz band. The 1800 MHz frequency band is being used for voice services, but the spectrum licenses sold by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) are paired and liberalised. So operators can roll out newer generations of standards on it and can offer 2G, 3G, or 4G services on the same spectrum band. The 4G generation of mobile phone communication standard allows users to enjoy high speed applications such as streaming high definition (HD) videos and playing games online. Using the same spectrum resources on 4G LTE, telecom service providers can gain higher efficiency.

At the time, Bali was quoted by The Telegraph as saying, “Following a successful spectrum allocation, we seek to provide subscribers with enhanced 4G network across the newly won circles in the second half of 2013 which will enable deliverance of best services and great value-for-money products to consumers.” He said that the company currently holds a market share of 15-18 percent in Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh circles.
