Viacom18 launches digital VOD platform VOOT; available on Android, iOS and web

Viacom18 launched its VOD platform VOOT today at an event in Mumbai. VOOT will be an advertising led VOD platform and will be available on Android, iOS and the web respectively. The VOOT app is said to offer 17,000 hours of network content and will also frontline VOOT Originals which will include celebrities such as Gulshan Grover, Baba Sehgal, Alok Nath and others. In addition to this, it is also said to offer a huge repository of kids characters in India which include Dora to Motu Patlu to Chhota Bheem. It will also offer popular characters across networks, from Nick characters like Dora, Spongebob to characters such as Pokemon. VOOT Originals will roll out shows in both long and short formats across genres like comedy and drama. Scriptwriters and directors will be front-lining these shows. Also, Viacom18 will move its entire content library, including Colors, MTV and Nick, to be digitally available on VOOT. VOOT has planned six originals through it’s launch phase and will also introduce a mockumentary titled Badman. Written and directed by Soumik Sen and co-written by stand-up comedian Anuvab Pal, the 4-part film has Gulshan Grover playing himself. Lastly, in the ‘Content and Contest’ category, there will be specially curated and platform exclusive shows.
