Asus has quietly launched a refreshed version of its 7-inch Fonepad tablet. The new version of the tablet has an improved processor and 32GB of internal storage. Along with the specs, however, the price has also gone up. The new version of the tablet costs Rs 17,999, up from the Rs 15,999 price tag of the tablet’s earlier iteration.

The tablet has a 7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Instead of the Intel Atom Z2420 chip of the earlier model, the new Fonepad runs on an Intel Atom Z2460 chip clocked at 1.6GHz. The GPU has been given an upgrade as well with the PowerVR SGX540 over the earlier tablet’s GC540.

Now a better Fonepad!

Everything else seems to be more-or-less the same. The FonePad is equipped with a 3-megapixel rear camera along with a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera that can record videos at 720p. The tablet is equipped with 16GB of internal memory and sports a microSD card slot with memory being expandable up to 32GB. It runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

The connectivity is where the name FonePad comes into play. Unlike other tablets with micro SIM slots that are used only to access 3G, the FonePad lets you use it as a full-fledged phone, much like Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 211 .

The Asus Fonepad comes with a number of exclusive Asus productivity apps: Floating App for easy management of running apps and multi-tasking; SuperNote Lite for handwritten notes and drawing; and WebStorage Office Online for Microsoft Office-compatible document editing on the move. Fonepad users also get 5GB of free lifetime Asus WebStorage for syncing and sharing data with other devices.

The upgraded Fonepad seems to only be available on online shopping website Flipkart .

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
