Upcoming Qualcomm Roadmap Leaks

Qualcomm has been the epicenter; I mean that as literally as I do metaphorically, of the latest breakthroughs in mobile device processing. If you thought they’ve already reached a peak in this field, you’d be mistaken as sources have only recently showcased a leaked presentation of what is to come.

From what the leaked slides are talking about, it’s clear that mobile technology, with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon chips is going to get seriously hardcore. Four new chips are on their way - MSM8270, the MSM8930, the MSM8960 and the APQ8064. These new chips are being developed around the 28mm Krait architecture that’s still on its way too. We’re talking about reaching processing speeds of a 2.5 GHz.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Aside from the chips being almost four times faster when it comes to graphics as compared to the latest devices already on the shelves, these babies are also going to about five times faster than any existing mobile CPU. Look out iPhone 4 and you too the Galaxy S II, someone else is going to be moving on up to that loft position real soon.

Mobile gamers will also be happy to know that Qualcomm is designing these chips to offer up ‘console-like’ gaming experiences on the mobile devices. How well they deliver on this promise remains to be seen. The new chips will be should be available in single and multi-core varieties (up to four cores)

What all this means for you and me, the users, is not just a stupendous speed burst in terms of accessing or running multiple apps on your handset, it also means added functionality like – 3D support, slightly better fully HD video playback and capture, support for 7.1 Dolby Surround and mobile cameras with higher resolutions.

Mobile phone functionality just got a shot of adrenaline.
