Upcoming Movies Inspired by Games

Games and Hollywood have a long winding history and even though it’s not resulted in some Oscar winning material, it’s entertaining nevertheless. In this article we’ll take a look at five upcoming game-to-movie-adaptations you could (or could not) look forward to in 2007.

Halo

Release Date: 2007
You’ve played both the games and now get ready to watch Master Chief kick some Covenant ass on the big screen. The movie will be directed by South African newcomer Neil Blomkamp and produced by none other than Peter Jackson (LOTR, King Kong). There’s no official word as to who would play Master Chief, but there were wild rumors on Denzel Washington stepping into the bots of the cloned super soldier. Halo will be shot in New Zealand and will be released in 2007/2008, and here’s a quick synopsis for those who’ve just emerged from their bomb shelter (courtesy imdb.com):
After they crash-land on an artificial ring-world called Halo, a marine captain, his surviving marines, and a genetically-and-surgically-enhanced supersoldier called “Master Chief” must find out what the Covenant, the genocidal alien race they are at war with, are looking for on the ring. However, Halo holds more secrets than either side imagined.

Resident Evil: Extinction

Release Date: 7th September 2007
The third Resident Evil movie, Extinction sees Milla Jovovich (Alice) and Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine) reprising their roles respectively. Extinction is set four years after the events that took place in the second movie, Apocalypse. The Umbrella Corporation has failed to control the T-Virus outbreak as a result of which most of the world as we know it, has been wiped out. With humanity in the doldrums, you have a certain amount of humans traveling together in packs scourging deserted areas for any signs of civilization.

Clock Tower

Release Date: 2007
If Resident Evil couldn’t satiate those psychological horror pangs, the movie adaptation of Capcom’s survival horror game may just do the trick. Clock Tower will unfold around a young woman called Alyssa Hamilton who receives a call from her mom warning her not to come home. She obviously doesn’t listen and not only will she end up getting a creepy homecoming, but she’ll have to ‘save tortured souls in order to end the brutal crusade of the Evil Servants’, and she has to do all this before the clock strikes midnight.

Dead or Alive

Release Date: 20th October 2006
Based on Tecmo’s/Team Ninja’s brawler of the same name, Dead or Alive, the movie will transport viewers to a mysterious island where you have hot women beating the crap out of each other in a DOA tournament. Now this movie is definitely not going to win any Oscars but the sheer cheese factor is so high, you will kick yourself if you miss it. Oh! and it has hot women in bikinis…

Driver

Release Date: 2007
Roger Avery, the man behind the recent scare-fest Silent Hill will be bringing Atari’s long-running franchise, Driver to the big screen. Details regarding this project are wafer thin as of now, but we do that Paul Anderson (Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat) will be producing the movie and here’s a short synopsis, courtesy imdb.com:
An undercover cop named Tanner posing as a getaway driver risks his life in order to infiltrate a crime ring based in four of America’s biggest cities.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now. see more
