Upcoming Games of 2008: Part II

Grand Theft Auto 4

Platform: Xbox360, PS3
Release Date: March/April 2008

The more I think about this game, this more it depresses me so I’m just going to leave it at that and say that it’s going to own anything and everything out there next year.
/Fanboyism over!

Turok

Platform: Xbox360, PS3, PC
Release Date: February 2008

Our Channel Editor for cameras and printers, Gagan Gupta , cried himself to sleep the day he heard of Turok’s delay (it was to come out in 2007) and has promised us that he’s not going to play any other dino-hunting game till Turok hits the stands. I’m sure he’s happy now.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

**Platform: Xbox360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP
Release Date: April 2008
**I’m not a big Star Wars fan and I find the whole universe ultra-geeky, but one look at this game’s insane physics (combined with some crazy over-the-top force powers) had me fantasizing about the Dark Side. The Force unleashed will put players into the boots of Darth Vader’s secret apprentice and will take place between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Platform: Xbox360, PS3, PC
Release Date: Match 2008

As the title suggests, this franchise is still stuck in Sin City and while we don’t know much about the game’s storyline we do know that Logan Keller has been replaced by a relatively unknown person – who, by the way, will be fully customizable even in the single player campaign. Expect the same cover system (thank you for that, Ubi), better AI, improved visuals, new weapons, game modes etc.

God of War: Chains of Olympus

**
Platform: PSP
Release Date: March 2008**
While Sony is busy working on God of War III for the PS3 (like you didn’t know that), developer Ready at Dawn studios has embarked on the noble vision of porting Kratos on to handheld consoles. Our skepticism quickly turned to disbelief as the game not only looks as good as its PS2 counterpart but plays just as well too. For me personally, this game is perhaps the only reason to own a PSP. If you’re still not convinced, head here for our demo impressions.

Rock Band

Platform: Xbox360, PS3, PS2
Release Date: TBA 2008

As you all already know, this game was released around the world last year but due to certain stupid regulations it could not make its way to India. We’re really hoping EA India finds a way to convince the head honchos abroad to start selling this bad boy over here in 2008 so we can get our rock on ASAP.

Sin City

Platform: Xbox360, PS3 (PC version not confirmed)
Release Date: TBA 2008
Based on the graphic novel and motion picture of the same name, this game will immerse players into the neo-noir hellhole that is Sin City. We don’t know if it’s going to be a first person shooter, or if it’s going to be a third person action adventure, or even what characters will be playable. We do know that it’s being developed using the Unreal 3 engine and that it will be out sometime in 2008, so we hope you make your peace with that. If not, kindly picture Jessica Alba doing her most excellent pole dancing sequence from the movie.

Unreal Tournament III

Platform: Xbox360
Release Date: April 2008 (Rumoured)

While PC and PS3 owners are busy enjoying the latest iteration of the Unreal Tournament series, Xbox 360 owners are still twiddling their thumbs waiting for this game to hit their beloved console. We haven’t received any sort of official word till date but rumor has it that the 360 version is 90% complete now and should be available by April 2008.

Midnight Club Los Angeles

**
Platform: Xbox360, PS3
Release Date: March/April 2008**
While not making games about the Wild West (Red Dead Revolver) or ping pong (Table Tennis), Rockstar’s San Diego studio likes to indulge in some high octane illegal street racing AKA the Midnight Club series. For Midnight Club L.A. the action has now shifted to L.A (duh!) and will be made using Rockstar’s R.A.G.E. engine that by the way is the same engine fuelling GTA IV. Newer features include a day and night cycle, a cockpit (heh) view, pedestrians, and much more.

The Bourne Conspiracy

**
Platform: Xbox360, PS3
Release Date: TBA 2008**
Based on both the movies as well as the books of the same name, The Bourne Conspiracy will allow gamers to step into the boots of Jason Bourne as he embarks on a journey to discover his true identity as well as lay the smackdown on all Treadstone employees who want him dead. The game will incorporate both hand-to-hand and weapon combat, and allow players to seamlessly switch between the two. Add to that the raw power of the Unreal 3 engine as well as a killer Gears of War-ish cover system, and you could have yet another movie tie up that did not end up sucking.

Nash, as he prefers being called, woke up to the wonders of gaming rather late but don't bring that up around him. It's a touchy subject. A self confessed Battlefield veteran, Nash spent a good part of 2010 on the Steam Battlefield - with Bad Company (see what we did there?). He has a zero tolerance policy towards RTS games but is currently showing an interest by picking up and moving people - who he refers to as units - in the office. Thank God he's not that enthusiastic about Angry Birds or we'd be seeing women flying all over the place. Bali... Bali, put the receptionist down now.
