Even though 2006 wasn’t a really good year for Sony and their next generation console—the PlayStation 3—2007 may prove to be different since there are a lot of potential system sellers on the horizon; let’s take a look.
Motorstorm
Touted by many as Sony’s system seller, Motorstorm is all set to redefine dirt track racing as you know it with killer visuals and a highly destroyable and volatile environment complete with dirt, mud chaos and mayhem. This savage no-holds bar competition will take place in Monument Valley, a desolated American desert where loosing isn’t an option.
Surprisingly the game’s doing really well in Japan and has quickly managed to scale the Japanese PlayStation 3 charts.
Devil May Cry 4
The highly awaited sequel to Devil May Cry 3 (one of the best action games to grace the PS2 in my opinion), DMC 4 will see players take control of a brand new character called Nero, instead of the crowd favorite, Dante (although he will still be a playable character in the game). The game will take place between the events of DMC 1 and DMC 2, and will feature more weapons, newer moves, diverse locations and more.

Lair
Feel like saving an entire civilization with your dragon? Well then Lair is the game for you. This new game from Factor 5 will allow players to play as Dragons as they go around decimating nearly everything in sight (think Reign of Fire); other dragons included. The E3 2006 video looks extremely impressive as nearly every battle looks extremely epic and the game really pushes the PS3 to the max with an insane amount of detail; definitely one of the most anticipated titles for the PS3.
Killzone 2
Remember that crazily rendered video of the game you saw at E3 2005? Well if Sony head honcho Phil Harrison is to be believed, the actual game will look a lot better than the trailer, but other than that and the fact that the game is one of “the biggest multimedia project in Dutch history”, we got nothing for you, so you’ll just have to wait till next year to find out.

Afrika
Probably one of the weirdest games to be announced for the PS3, Afrika sounds like no other game we’ve come across before, since it won’t have Aliens, Nazis or Zombies, but will take place in a highly detailed and picturesque Afrika where you have herds of animals minding their own business… and well, that’s about it. There is a high possibility that you may play as a photographer or a tour guide in the game.
Virtua Fighter 5
Virtua Fighter 5 should satiate those fighting pangs of yours till Tekken 6 hits the PS3. The game will feature 17 fighters including two new characters, El Blaze and Eileen, and the ability to customize your characters with a wide range of unlockable items. Something new to this series is the addition of an “Offensive Move” technique, that’s all set to add a whole new dimension to this series.

**Metal Gear Solid 4
**
Taking place after Sons of Liberty (MG2), Metal Gear Solid 4 is all set to re-invent the series with tons of stuff that’s guaranteed to blow your mind. On the flip side, this may be the very last MGS we play since Hideo Kojima is keen on moving onto newer projects. Expect Nikhil’s preview soon.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
After enthralling (and not to mention frustrating) Xbox gamers all over, one of the toughest action games of this generation, Ninja Gaiden is all set to make its debut on the PS3. Unfortunately, this isn’t a new game; it’s merely a rehash of the original one with new stages, enemies, weapons, moves and the ability to play as Fiend hunter, Rachael.

Final Fantasy XIII
If you thought Advent Children was cool, wait till you get a hang of the game that’ll actually allow you to pull off such gravity defying maneuvers, Final Fantasy XIII.
Heavenly Sword
Even wondered what you would get if you mixed Serious Sam with a hack and slash game like say God of War? Well in the previous generation of games you would probably get squat, but now, thanks to the power of the PS3, we now get Heavenly Sword, the story of Nariko, who takes on armies of enemies single handedly, armed with nothing but her sword, to save the Heavenly Sword (ironic isn’t it?).
Expect our final (and the most comprehensive) list next week.
