Where there is a will, there is a way. It may be ages before Twitter’s video app Vine makes its way to Windows Phone. Meanwhile, there is an unofficial app called 6sec that will let WP users make their own six-second long, loopy videos.
While there have been apps in the Windows Phone Store that allow you to view these videos uploaded to Vine, 6sec allows you to upload videos. It is – in effect – a proper third-party Vine application for Windows Phone.
Windows Phone users need not feel left out anymore
Made by developer Rudy Huyn, 6sec is receiving daily updates that push its abilities to function more and more like Vine applications on iOS and Android. Compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices, the app lets you create and upload Vines, share them on your Twitter timeline and even throws in the ability to have live tiles of the app on your phone.
The application is still in beta and will be in the mode for at least a few more weeks. The system, says WPCentral, does not involve any “hacked” APIs. Instead, 6sec, quite like Instagraph, involves using a relay server to push videos to Vine’s servers.
Applications like Instagraph, Metrogram and 6sec are all essentially temporary fixes till Facebook and Twitter turn their focus to the much-neglected Windows Phone platform. Once official apps are released for the platform, it will pretty much render these apps useless.
Even while it faces the risk of fading into oblivion the moment Vine officially comes to Windows Phone, 6sec looks quite like how the video looping app should look like on the platform. You can take 6sec for a spin if you own a Windows Phone 8 device and tell us what you think of it.
