UC Browser now optimised for Android tablets

UC Browser has now been optimised to run with Android tablets and developers have added some new features to the browser. These features include gestures, an in-built file manager, the ability to reopen closed tabs, the omnibox and quick reads.

The new Gestures feature adds new convenient gestures to handle browsing on the tablet. You can swipe down with two fingers to open a new tab, swipe up to close a tab, or swipe left and right to switch between different tabs.

One can access the file manager from Settings, allowing users to use simple file functions such as moving, copying or making and deleting folders, and customise the default download path. Users can now also tap on the button on the top left corner of the browser to see the tabs that have been closed recently. Tapping on the URL reopens the tab.

The Omnibox autofills content when typing in the URL bar and automatically decides whether the typed content is a URL or keywords to be searched. This makes browsing on a portable device much easier. Quick Reads act as feeds, allowing you to quickly get the latest posts from the website of your choice.

Back in October, UC Browser had announced an update for Java 8.6. As per the statement, the update provides faster and more powerful download and upload management. Users can preview images before uploading, and also enable virtual keyboard optimisation. The most significant change of the new Java 8.6 is the ‘Offline Download’ function using which content can be downloaded even though the phone memory has already been exhausted.

In the ‘Offline Download’ mechanism, when the user’s device storage space is insufficient, the downloaded items are stored in the UDisk. Users can open it without saving items to the local disk. It supports txt, pdf, doc, xls, ppt, umd, zip, and rar file formats. The version 8.6 for Java adds a quick entry to the download tap, allowing users access to the offline download management.

You can now preview images in UC Browser before uploading. On Java 8.6, even feature phones can display photos as previews as it provides an option of Image Preview. In addition to this, it claims that Java 8.6 also reduces the upload time with 4x uploading speed, allowing users to enjoy a smartphone-like performance on their feature phones as well.

The UC Browser application for Android had also received an update to version 8.4.1. The new version, among other things offers multi-language support - English, Russian, Portuguese, French, Bahasa, and Vietnamese. The updated version of the application comes with a fix to the battery consumption bug, and fixes another swipe bug.

UC Browser is available for more than 3,000 different models of cell phones, from over 200 cell phone manufacturers. In addition, UC Browser is compatible with all mainstream operating systems such as Symbian, Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, Win CE, Java, MTK and BlackBerry.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
