UberMOTO launches in Bangalore, to offer rides for as low as Rs 3 per km

UberMOTO is a pilot program that’s launched in Bangalore wherein you’ll be able to order an Uber two-wheeler the same way you would their cars. The service is available in the same format as regular Uber rides. You just select the UberMOTO option in your app and you’ll have a two-wheeler pop over in minutes, or so they claim.

The rates are as low as you would expect from a two-wheeler ride. The base far is Rs 15, you’ll be charged Rs 3 per km and Rs 1 per minute on top of that. The minimum fare is Rs 15. As a short haul service, UberMOTO does make a lot of sense, especially if the service is prompt. The service will be available in select areas of Bangalore, as seen in the image above, between 7am and 9pm.

Keeping security in mind, the Uber riders will carry a spare helmet for you. The regular Uber features such as GPS tracking, two-way feedback and the ability to share your location with friends and family are also included. The name of the rider, his photo and bike details will also be sent to you at the time of placing the request.

Uber launched a similar service in Bangkok about a month ago and have seen some success there. Understandable, considering that Bangkok sees a lot of two-wheeler traffic. Their earlier initiative with Uber auto-rickshaws in India was a failure, but UberMOTO does show promise, on paper at least. Let’s see how things pan out for them with this pilot launch.
