Twitter's testing 'retweet with comment' for select users

Twitter is now believed to be testing a new feature called “retweet with comment” that will allow users to converse further without losing the context. First spotted by Mashable in a tweet sent out by Twitter’s head of communications, Carolyn Penner, the new feature shows more space in the comment section when one is retweeting. ‘Retweet with Comment surfaces the retweeted message as an image, leaving users with just under 140-characters to share their own thoughts," adds the report.

This means as you retweet, you an also add your thoughts on the matter discussed in that tweet.

A retweet basically allows users to re-post someone else’s tweet on their own timeline. Twitter had introduced another feature called quote tweet capable of grabbing a tweet and placing it in quotation marks, and then allowing people to re-post it by inserting their comment in front of or after the quoted snippet. However, this means facing the harsh 140 characters limitation.

The new ‘retweet with comment’ is expected to replace the ‘quote tweet’ feature. So, the retweet will be converted into an image or card and the user will get 140 characters to express their views.

Twitter is still experimenting this feature and it has been now rolled out to only select users.
