Twitter will let you make up to 1,000 Lists now

Remember Twitter Lists? One of Twitter’s lesser known features that seems to have been buried under the micro-blogging website has received a shot in the arm. In a tweet, Twitter has announced that it is raising the limit of Lists to 1,000 now with each having the capacity to include up to 5,000 accounts.

Earlier, the hard limit was set at 20 lists per account with each being able to contain only 500 accounts in them. Considering the jump from 20 to 1,000 it looks like not even the most dedicated of Twitter power-users will have a problem with compartmentalising their Time Line into Lists.

Add up to 5,000 people to each of your 1,000 lists now

The Lists feature had been launched in the micro-blogging service back in 2009. The 20 Lists cap had been in place ever since then. Not the most widely used feature these days, Twitter Lists aim at making your Time Line clutter free. You can even add accounts you don’t follow into these compartments so you can receive updates from them, but only when you want to see them.

Once you’ve created a List, other users can follow these too. These Lists are public by default, but you can choose to make them private and only visible to you. With default public Lists, anyone can follow or view the accounts in them. Users you have put into these streams will have this information on their profiles for everyone to see.  

Lists used to be a commonly used feature till a couple of years ago. However, with the multiple redesigns the site has undergone since 2012, the Lists feature got buried in the folds of the website. Twitter now seems to have trained its sights on reviving the feature by granting a longer rope to users who would like to create and follow these Lists.
