Twitter testing out new look for threaded conversations

Twitter seems to be silently testing out a brand new look for messages and replies on the website that follows a thread pattern. This new look will literally place a thread between replies in tweets to make it easy for users to grasp the conversation.

Noted by a few Twitter users, the aim of introducing threaded conversations seems to be to encourage dialogue. Twitter has allowed users to follow conversations better since a while now by offering them a whole page view of threads.

If you wish to see replies to a particular tweet, you only need to click on it. The expanded tweet drawer will show you most replies the tweet has received. You can also click on the timestamp of a tweet to open up a whole new page where you can follow series of exchanges between people.

This new thread seems to have a whole different look though. Instead of needing to click on timestamps or open up tweet drawers, Twitter will let you view conversation threads within your timeline, even as you scroll through it. Threaded tweets in a timeline will have a smaller font size than rest of the tweets. The last tweet in the chain will be of normal size, so you can figure where the trail ends.

While Twitter has not spoken officially about this new look at all, more and more users are noticing this UI tweak on their timelines. This new threaded system could mean far more conversations on Twitter, where users looking at a few of them will want to participate in those threads. Do you like the new look of Twitter threads?
