Twitter partners with Samsung to bring 360-degree video to the NBA Finals

Twitter is bringing 360-video footage to the NBA starting off with the upcoming Game 1 of the Finals. The social media giant plans to go big by offering the National Basketball Association (NBA) a platform to quickly rollout 360-degree video footage that will be offered to users in the form of Twitter cards linked out to the same. For now it is all a surprise as to what will actually be shown in these videos, but we do know that Samsung is a part of the deal. Twitter has reportedly joined hands with the NBA and Samsung to offer the same to millions who will take to the service once the games begin. Considering that Samsung is involved, we could be looking at footage coming from Samsung's Gear 360 . Twitter plans to show “exclusive content” as the finals progress. This is a big deal for Twitter because it is as close as the company can get to 360-video that is big this year. While Facebook certainly will have a surprise as well, for now, the company seems to be mum on the same. Facebook has been stocking up on its 360 assets recently. It currently supports native 360-video. Twitter’s 360-degree video experience will not be as seamless as users will just get a link that will take them to another page to view the same. The Samsung Gear 360 which was launched at the MWC early this year, features two cameras on opposite sides and each of them sports super wide-angle lenses. The device supports two modes. You could either use them for complete 360-degree videos or via a single lens mode, you could also capture traditional videos in 180-degree.
