Twitter offers beta testing programme to Android users

Post Facebook launching a platform for Android users to beta test the latest features it was adding to its app, another social networking website has jumped on to the beta-testing wagon. Twitter has thrown its doors open to Android users who would like to participate in a beta-testing programme for its app on the operating system.

If you’ve participated in Facebook’s beta-testing programme, you know exactly how this works. For the uninitiated, the process is fairly simple. The beta-testing programme has come about thanks to Google opening up a system to beta test Android applications on its mobile OS.

Beta test unreleased builds of Twitter for Android

You must be signed up to become a beta tester with Twitter to be able to get access to the newest features. However, at the time of publishing, the sign up page for Twitter’s beta testing group seems to be unavailable and the group closed. It looks like Twitter is trying to address concerns within the beta testing application or has temporarily closed membership to the group.

For those who have already signed up before Twitter suspended the process, you will have found a link to download the beta version of Twitter for Android. Once you’ve signed up to be a beta tester, you will not be able to run the stable version of the application till you opt out.

With the beta testing mode of Twitter, you will have to help the micro-blogging service by using an unstable version of its application. Think of yourselves as guinea pigs on which Twitter will rain down bugs and instability. On your part you need to provide Twitter with feedback and bug reports.

Don’t be surprised if you end up being subjected to new features like the blue-line before the rest of the world. At least this way you can issue advance warnings to Twitter about newer features that you think are not going to click with the users.

Intrigued by all things social, Nishtha will invariably tweet about you. When not tweeting or writing about the next viral video, you will hear her proclaiming her love to Metallica, James Hetfield, Opeth, Akerfeldt and all bands that go 'growl'. She also obsesses about ACP Pradyuman and South Park and you will always find her moving around with a book. Her focus is on all the happening stuff in the tech domain, and she won't hesitate to take a shot at some of the oddball devices that make their way to our labs.
