News has surfaced about a new Twitter update that lets users know when someone has “favorited” a tweet mentioning them, reports The Next Web. While only time will tell how users take to this new feature, the more popular users may just discover a new source of annoyance. Previously, Twitter only notified users when their tweets would be “favorited”, but this newfound ability will let them see beyond their direct connections – an ability that had been missing so far.
Going beyond direct connections
It doesn’t end here. Reportedly, users will also receive notifications when another user retweets a tweet they retweeted. The report says that the update may have been rolled out on June 17, but surprised users have only now begun to talk about it. One such user (@kylejasmin) tweeted, “Just received from Twitter “a new type of Email notification which you get when someone favorites one of your retweets.” Thanks…” Clearly, what better way to discover connections!
The past few weeks in particular have been eventful for the popular microblog. It recently announced in a blog post that it bought local discovery service Spindle. The Spindle will be joining Team Twitter in San Francisco, signalling an end to current Spindle services to focus on this new opportunity. Spindle, the three-year old start-up, has a mobile-search application that brings you localised information about businesses and organisations around you. At the time of the announcement, it had been revealed that the Spindle app will be shuttered as the team plans to join Twitter. The iOS app has already been pulled off from the App Store.
