Copying is the best form of flattery, it is said. Yet, when someone copies your piece of work it get quite annoying. What we all need is credit where it is due. The rules hold true for tweets as well. And Twitter has realised this and has begun taking corrective measures to ensure that tweets aren’t blatantly copied. Through a support page, Twitter is enabling users to report copyright infringement in tweets. According to a report in the Verge, “Twitter staffers weed through the claims to decide which appear valid. If it decides to follow through with the request, Twitter can then remove or delete the tweet. The company’s policy is to then give the offending user ten days to file a counter notice. Twitter also publishes DMCA requests publicly on the website Chilling Effects, though records of this particular claim do not appear to be on the site yet. Twitter declined to comment for this story.” However as discovered by Twitter user (PlagiarismBad), Twitter has already begun taking down tweets violating copyright guidelines. https://twitter.com/plagiarismbad/status/624926843322396672 So the next time you tweet out something you’ve created, don’t forget to take ownership, and let Twitter know about it!
