Does Twitter mystify you? Don’t know the difference between a RT and a MT or a DM and @ reply? Well don’t feel too bad, you’re in good company. It’s not just Indians who find it difficult to use Twitter . It looks like Twitter’s finance chief Anthony Noto still hasn’t got a hang of the micro-blogging site either. In what clearly looks like a ‘DM fail’, he accidentally tweeted out an acquisition suggestion.
While Twitter has refused to comment on the matter, it is still unclear which company the CFO is talking about. However, the guessing and speculating has already begun. A NYTimes report points out it could be a news startup called Mic, as the Twitter executive had recently started following several executives of that company. And this isn’t the first time we have seen such a high profile social media faux pas. In another famous DM failure, Anthony Weiner, a former lawmaker faced a similar situation. A Twitter post with suggestive content appeared on his account. He tried to cover up by claiming that his account had been hacked, but soon this was found to not be the case at all. Noto joined Twitter as the CFO in July. Soon after Kevin Roose pointed out the faux pas, he deleted the tweet. However, as we all know, in this day and age of screenshots, it is not really easy to erase something from the web.
