Twitter app for iOS and Android updated to let users access entire DM history

Whether you use Twitter’s direct messaging feature is a different story, but the micro-blogging giant is committed to making it smarter and simpler to use.   Twitter has announced that its upcoming mobile app update will allow users to browse their entire history of direct messages. The update hopes to provide a better chat experience with DMs, which is currently pretty old-fashioned.      Twitter also announced that the update would make deleting DMs more consistent across mobile and web platforms. As of now, you can only delete an entire thread but not individual messages from your phone, whereas the desktop version only lets you delete individual messages and not complete threads.   The service which allows you to send private messages to people you follow, had last year introduced new features such as adding photos to DMs. Many wondered what took Twitter so long to revamp its messaging interface, considering its competitor Facebook already had a polished messaging interface by then.   By 2011, Facebook had launched a standalone messaging app for iPhone and Android devices catering to over 750 million Facebook users, but Twitter is only now thinking of a big revamp for DMs. Well, we say, better late than never. Twitter could also expand the role of DMs, especially as it adds more features such as shoppable tweets and in-line subscription buttons, so that brands could better engage with users. There were murmurs of a standalone DM app from Twitter, but that never materialised. Perhaps its time has now come.
