Twitter and Evernote for Android Get Facelifts

Two Android apps got major facelifts. The social networking tool, Twitter for Android now matches the features of Twitter for iOS. It was high time this update came about, the previous interface focused on simplicity and lacked many of the features that makes Twitter useful. For instance, in the new version a toolbar with tabs for mentions, direct messages and lists, retweets etc has been made for the top of the page. The app can now also be used without signing in, so if you don’t have a twitter account, you can still see what’s going on in Twitterverse (your timeline will be filled with random ‘popular’ tweets though) and finally, Twitter’s integrated a universal search option. This means that if you search for the word ‘shoes’, you’ll have the option of searching for just tweets with the word ‘shoes’ or tweets and people with the word ‘shoes’ in their Twitter handles. The Twitter for Android app is almost as good and intuitive as its iOS counterpart. Let’s see how long it will take to catch up to neck and neck, as well as catch up with Tweetdeck for Android’s popularity.

The other Android app that got nipped and tucked is Evernote. The major change they’ve introduced is the Snippet View. This is a preview of all the notes with as much text provided as your screen size allows so you know which note you want to look at.

They’ve also added notebook stacks (which they recently added in their Windows and Mac edition) which allows you to group your notebooks. If a certain set of notebooks is more useful to you in some situations than others, you can stack them and assign a name to them and have easier access to them. You can also edit all your notes, not limited to text, including pictures, web clips and audio notes from your Android device. Easier functionality has been added where if you’ve selected one line to be a bulleted point, when you press enter, the next line also becomes a bulleted point. Evernote says they’re working on bringing the ability for users to new styled text or re-style existing text.

Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!). She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo. see more
