Twitpic launches iOS app, Android users left waiting

Twitpic has existed for a long time now and has been the most favourable service for posting pictures on Twitter. After all these years and about 35 million users later, Twitpic have finally released an app for iPhone users. Android users will have to wait a bit longer for this. The website launched in 2008 by Noah Everett is now available on all iOS devices. The app lets you capture an image, edit it and instantly share them with your followers. The API originally was used to power photo sharing in apps, like Tweetbot before Twitter launched their own photo-sharing service, called Photobucket.

In a way, the Twitpic app has many traits similar to Instagram. For instance, you can capture your photos and then add filters to enhance it before sharing. Since you don’t have to start from scratch, your photo is instantly visible by everyone following you. You can browse images from people you follow in a neat looking interface. You can alternately browse photos from the most popular Twitpic users as well. According to a report by Sysomos, Twitpic is now the leading third-party image hosting service for Twitter. Out of 2.25 million daily images shared on Twitter, 45 percent come from Twitpic. Even though Photobucket is now the official image hosting service for Twitter, this hasn’t really affected Twitpic too much and continues to be one of the preferred sites to host images. If you have an iPhone, then simply head over to the app store and download the app.
