In an incident that will serve as lesson to any and every budding marketing and strategy professionals for years to come, an LG event to promote its latest G2 went horribly awry with 20 people walking away injured.
The South Korean company invited a bunch of people to a park in Seoul on Friday for a publicity event where it teased that around a 100 users would stand a chance to win the flagship device for themselves. The event called “G in the Cloud” was conceived to get users to literally pluck a chance to get the G2 from the clouds.
The smartphone’s event goes awry
The company released a bunch of balloons into the sky with free coupons to get the LG G2 attached to it. Of course, LG failed to realise that this lucrative event would see people doing all that they possibly can to get their hands on these vouchers. While some people came armed with BB Guns, one woman carried a pointed staff that could possibly have injured people.
About 20 people did end up being injured by the end of the event that went horribly wrong, leading to LG announcing that all future outdoor events pertaining to the new flagship G2 would be cancelled in South Korea. The company acknowledged that it had trouble controlling the crowd and took responsibility for the event. LG said that it would be covering costs for helping the injured recover. “We will provide them with proper medical treatment as we are responsible for the event,” LG told The Korea Times.
LG unveiled the 5.2-inch full HD display G2 last week. The phone is powered by a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor featuring Krait CPU with 2GB of RAM.
