Jacob Bijani, creative director of micro-blogging site Tumblr, has announced through a post that he is no longer part of the company. According to his Tumblr account, Bijani joined the team as one of its first employees back in 2008 and served as the company’s first designer, product engineer and creative director.
Bijani shared his experiences about joining Tumblr, saying “five years ago I joined a team of four as Tumblr’s first designer, creative director, and product engineer. That team has since grown to 182 of the most wonderful and talented people around. I’m so proud of what we’ve all created together, and it’s been a privilege to contribute to something beloved by so many. I can’t wait to see what’s next for the product; I’m sure it will be nothing short of incredible.”
While talking about his future plans, Bijani said that there are a lot of things that he wishes to accomplish and is excited about the next phase. He also mentioned a dozen projects that he has planned. However, details about these projects were not mentioned.

The timing of his departure is interesting though. Yahoo took over Tumblr in a $1.1 billion cash deal 11 days ago. While it is not unknown to see important executives taking their leave after an acquisition, it does show that Yahoo’s repeated claims about not “screwing up” Tumblr might not be as well accepted within the ranks as previously portrayed. The company recently announced that it will start bringing sponsored posts to user dashboards on the Web. The company has also said that “these posts will simply blend in with the posts from the blogs you follow.”
According to a Tumblr staff blog that was put up in 2008, founder David Kerp said Bijani caught his attention while designing a “super unique" theme. The now CEO asked Bijani to join the team to “overhaul the site to accommodate the new stuff” that the site wanted to launch in 2009.
Right now, Bijani has said that he wants to process everything that has happened in the last few years. And while the nature of the projects he is getting into was left unclear, Bijani has made it clear that users can expect more from him soon.
