A smartphone, a tablet, an app and an LED TV; we’ve had a busy week here at tech2 labs. Here’s a roundup from this week:
Sony Xperia Tablet Z (SGP321) (6.5/10)
With a price tag of Rs 46,990, the Xperia Tablet Z is very pricey when you consider its overall performance. It has some neat tricks up its sleeve, like the IP55/57 certification and the IR blaster, but the comparatively low onboard storage, mediocre camera and battery life and the intermittent lag in the UI takes away from an otherwise pleasant experience. You can get a 32GB 4th Gen iPad with 3G for this money and that’s the route we’d recommend if you have this budget, as you’ll be getting a better display, camera and battery performance for a little less.
Stunning design and stellar build
Vine (7.5/10)
The Vine app is interesting, fun and quite addictive. The iOS version is more polished, while the new Android version leaves a spacious room for improvement. Though Twitter has announced that all the popular features will soon be made available to Android in the form of updates, we hope it is sooner rather than later.
Celkon Signature HD A119Q (6/10)
Priced at Rs 12,499, this phone seems to decently priced when compared with the others in the category. We also have the Xolo Q700, which sports almost similar features and is priced below the Rs 10,000 bracket. On the other hand, WickedLeak’s Wammy Passion Z is also available with a full HD IPS display for around Rs 2,000 more. Going by the price, performance and feature set it offers, the Celkon A119Q is a good buy. But what goes against it are a few areas of concern such as the bulky size, slightly excess weight, camera issue and a few others we mentioned earlier.

Sony BRAVIA KDL-W650A LED TV (8/10)
The Sony BRAVIA KDL-W650A LED TV may seem expensive, but it has the quality and performance to back it up. The build quality is spot on, while this also happens to be one of the rare LED/LCD TVs that manages to provide decent sound quality. The image fidelity too defies the price and the size of the TV, with excellent showing in movies and games alike. The smart TV features may not be as elaborate as those found in the more expensive variety, but have been put together well and woven around a pleasing UI. If you don’t mind spending a premium on quality, this TV thoroughly justifies its asking price of Rs 45,000.
